Contacts, Chlorine, and Chaos: Surviving Summer with Lenses

You can’t miss it with this heat: Summer is in full swing! And if you’re like us, you’re braving the high temps to enjoy some old-fashioned outdoors time — yard work, catching a ball game, or just lounging by the pool.  You also know what it’s like to be caught wearing glasses beneath that blazing summer sun. There’s little worse than trying to enjoy the sunshine while also fighting your glasses on the slip-n-slide sweat ride down your face. It’s just too hot!

That’s why more and more people are choosing contact lenses for a variety of health and aesthetic reasons. Here are the three big advantages of opting for contact lenses:

Protecting Your Eyes:

All-Activities Vision:

We lather on the sunscreen to protect our skin from harmful sun rays. But newsflash! Your eyes can burn, too.

In the past, we have written about how sunglasses do more than make you look good. They protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Contact lenses can do the same thing.

Although not a replacement for a good pair of sunglasses, contacts with UV protection will filter out some of the harmful radiation, while protecting your eyes from other pollutants. They also don’t fog up when going from the cool A/C to the hot, humid outdoors.

For those of us with less-than-perfect vision, glasses are a way of life. But when summer rolls around, we also want to enjoy all the great outdoor activities. Contacts allow you to see great without the risks of broken glasses – or awkward glasses-shaped tan lines.

Because contacts rest directly on your eye, they also offer better side vision while playing sports, heading out on a road trip, and other summer activities. It’s freedom to see without cumbersome spectacles.

Summer-Time Styles:

A lot of people choose contacts because they love their no-glasses look, but contacts also give you the freedom to mix and match styles. Whether it’s choosing glasses one day and contacts the next or swapping out your collection of non-prescription sunglasses, with contacts you choose how to see great and look good doing it!

Contact Lens Health Week

Take care of your eyes!

The third full week of August is dedicated to bring awareness to healthy contact lens wear and care. Be sure to educate yourself on the proper techniques to clean and store your contact lenses. Always adhere to the wear schedule, a monthly lens is only good for 30 days! Keep your glasses prescription up-to-date and have a back-up pair for emergencies.

If you are noticing any signs of infection (redness, burning, or light sensitivity) discontinue contact use and call us to schedule an office visit! At Angel Eyes Vision, we care about your vision, but more importantly we care about the health of your eyes. You should too!
